Secret Landscapes centers around the theme of celebration as part of make believe festivals derived from the artist’s imagination. These festive landscapes are ripe with glowing lanterns, carpe kites and doll head baubles which fantastically adorn flowering trees. Gjurasic’s painting technique is very much as unique as her artistic style. She layers thin Japanese papers and rice papers on wood panel, painting between each layer. She paints with water based paints, including, acrylic, water color, house paint and a mixture of sumi ink and acrylic paint. She incorporates decorative origami papers and delicate paper cuts by applying to the paintings’ surface adding a deeper dimension to the piece.
